The New England Country Club (NECC Holdings LLC) and Copper Mill have been relentlessly pushing to destroy the forests between Bellingham and Woonsocket for decades. Every few years, they return with another attempt to bulldoze nature and disrupt quiet, residential neighborhoods—all in the name of profit.
Their plan involves wiping out woodlands to build a 5-story 1600 unit mega-apartment complex, completely disregarding the environmental impact, overwhelming community opposition and increasing the population of Bellingham by up to 20%.
Our goal is simple: We want this stopped.
The developers behind the New England Country Club (NECC) / Copper Mill project have a troubling history of misleading communities, altering plans after approval, and straining local infrastructure. Past projects in Boston, Somerville, and Brockton expose a consistent pattern of deceptive practices and disregard for community concerns. These issues stem not only from Copper Mill but also from Scape, the former company associated with the project's owners.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
If this developer has already misled multiple Massachusetts communities, why should we trust them in Bellingham and Woonsocket? The NECC project will be changed, expanded, or abandoned, leaving our towns to deal with the consequences.
In Davis Square, Somerville, they promised housing but suddenly converted the plan to lab space, leaving the community out of the decision (Banker & Tradesman, 2024). The switch in the project sparked outrage for ignoring the needs of residents and small businesses (Boston.com, 2025).
Scape has relied on massive refinancing deals to keep projects moving, such as their $178M refinancing of a Boston development (Multi-Housing News, 2025). If financing collapses, Bellingham could be left with an unfinished project or unexpected changes to the development’s purpose.
